Once again, I aim to avoid spoilers as much as possible.
Clay Morrow, president of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club is shot by a member of the very same club. Clay tries to cover it up, to save the club member. He blames a rival gang for the shooting. His right-hand man, Alexander “Tig” Trager, blindly loyal in a fit of rage, takes a car and seeks out the rival gangs leader.
Now this is where the scene becomes great. As Tig is sat in the car, watching the rival gang leader, a very old song, “Crimson & Clover” plays over the car radio, in a nice example of diegetic sound effectively utilised. As the car pulls away, the music shifts, ceasing to play over the radio, and instead playing over the scene, non-diegetically.
Much as Tarantino, SoA has always utilised music at the right moments. “Crimson & Clover” is a song with fairly morose feelings, seeming to be about lost loves, and missed opportunities with a lady. It fits the scene greatly, I wish I had a clip to spare in order to show so you could witness it for yourselves.
