Colonel Hans Landa of the German SS is in rural France, fulfulling his duties as the “Jew Hunter”. He arrives at a farmhouse, owned and inhabited by a Perrier La Padite. A family of Jews live in the neighbouring area, and I am sure we all remember why the Germans hunted them.
After drinking his hosts’ milk, smoking his own enormous pipe at Monsieur La Padite’s dining table, he becomes fully comfortable enough to ask the question; “You are hiding enemies of the state, are you not”?
After being notified of the presence of the Jewish family, the monster, Colonel Landa summons his troops, who duly empty their rounds into the floorboards, killing all but one, Shosanna Dreyfuss.
My opinion is that this is a truly magnificent film, Quentin Tarantino yet again showing the world that he is one of the finest writers alive. Hans Landa is a truly despicable character, embellished with power, seeming to emanate off of the man. Christoph Waltz is astounding, the score providing an incredible accompaniment to his performance, showing the power Landa has.#
